How does Maria Valtorta's The Gospel as Revealed to Me Compare to the Revelations of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich and Venerable Mary of Agreda's Mystical City of God?

The written account of Maria Valtorta's revelations surpass those of Venerable Mary of Agreda's Mystical City of God and the writings attributed to Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich in terms of detail, comprehensiveness, historical and scientific accuracy, theological correctness, and relevance for our times.

Maria Valtorta's revelations and the transcription of them into a written format has been uniquely preserved from error to a very high degree. In comparison, Emmerich's and Agreda's transcription of their revelations were not preserved from error to the same degree. Clemens Brentano, who wrote down Emmerich's revelations, added false additions from apocryphal and other sources. Vatican investigations into the writings attributed to Emmerich have confirmed authenticity issues, and scholars have identified numerous examples of theological and other types of errors.

Mary of Agreda faced the necessity of rewriting her Mystical City of God 18 years after her initial visions. The first rendition, penned shortly after her visionary experiences, was notably accurate, as it was divinely illuminated in all aspects—both the descriptions of visions and the instructional content provided by the Spirit. Unfortunately, the original version was lost by fire in 1643, and the subsequent second rewrite also met a similar fate. Commanded to rewrite it once more, the final version that has come down to us in history lost the perfection of the original. In this ultimate rendition, the descriptive segment suffered from the introduction of human elements, rendering it erroneous and distorted. However, the part containing instruction from the Spirit remained illuminated by God and retained its fidelity to the original work.

Scholars have identified numerous errors in The Mystical City of God, spanning historical inaccuracies, biological misrepresentations, and indications that Agreda incorporated elements influenced by her contemporary era, diverging from the likely reality of Christ's time. In contrast, Maria Valtorta's revelations are devoid of such errors, maintaining a higher degree of accuracy.
